The 🍄4th Annual African Rising Mushroom Festival 🍄 is hosted by Environmental Conservation and Agricultural Enhancement Uganda (Eco-Agric Uganda) at their Mushroom growing center three kilometers from the Hoima central market in rural Eastern Uganda. This year's theme, "From Waste to Wealth," is a circular economy blueprint for Africa's sustainable future.
Across Africa, millions of tons of agricultural byproducts—corn stalks, coffee husks, sawdust, and banana leaves—are burned or left to rot every year. It is a massive "Waste" of resources, a source of environmental pollution, and a missed economic opportunity.
Mushrooms are nature’s ultimate bio-recyclers. They don’t require arable land to grow; instead, they thrive on agricultural waste, breaking it down and transforming it into high-value, protein-rich food. But the "Wealth" doesn't stop at the harvest. The leftover substrate becomes a potent, organic fertilizer, returning vital nutrients to depleted soils and increasing future crop yields.
About The Event
The festival features a range of activities, including exhibitions, industry speakers, mushroom training and mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and innovative mycology solutions and technology showcases. Activities will run from 7:30am to 5:30pm EAT in Uganda each day over the 3-day festival. Live virtual sessions will run from 7:30am to 10:00 EAT each day. Please note that this is 8:30pm to 11:00pm Pacific Time the evening prior.
